Our Hands, Our Health

In the midst of the flu and cold season, there are many things that one can do to support our health – including washing your hands.

Did you know that there is a right and a wrong way to wash your hands?

The proper steps:

  1. Wet your hands with warm water
  2. Add soap
  3. Rub hands together for 20 seconds, making sure to rub between fingers, under the fingernails and up to your wrists. You could also sing “Happy Birthday” to annotate the time you should be spend washing.
  4. Rinse thoroughly
  5. Dry with a hand dryer or clean paper towel
  6. Do not touch the faucet (or the door know) with your hands, use a barrier such as paper towel or part of clothing.

It is suggested that you wash your hands often throughout the day including:

  • Before and after you eat
  • After using the restroom
  • After work or school
  • After coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose
