Introduction to Aromatherapy

Introduction to Aromatherapy

All plants give off some sort of scent, no matter how faint.  Most are welcoming and wonderful. All connect you to nature.

We typically think of aromatherapy as the fragrance of plants that has an effect on our emotional well being.

Aromatherapy is much more than this.

Aromatherapy is the maintenance of physical, psychological and spiritual wellbeing through the controlled use of essential oils.

Essential oils are substances that are found in different parts of the plant. Some essential oils come from the petals of the flowers, such as Rose and Jasmine. Other essential oils come from the woody material, such as Cedar wood, while others come from roots, such as Spikenard.

Roughly 17,500 plant species are aromatic and can be found around the world. There are approximately 400 essential oils traded worldwide.
